The BIG Earthquake

On Saturday morning at about 4.30 a.m, there was a BIG earthquake. It went up to 7.4 and then down to 7.1. After shocks may continue for weeks and a bigger earthquake is predicted. My family only lost two wine glasses and a statue with a wobbly surface. I woke up in the middle of it and didn't know what was happening. All the same, I quickly got out of bed and went under the warm bed I had been sleeping on. When it was all over, my little sister and I went into mum and dad's bed. I think I got to sleep then I realised I'd been lying there for about an hour doing something that I didn't I was doing and I figured I hadn't had a wink of sleep after the earthquake.

On Tuesday we went to Science Alive. I went on the slide, but first we had to get our shoes off. You didn't have to take your socks off. Then there was 30 steps to go up. It was so tiring! I was scared because it was so ENORMOUS! The first time I didn't do it because I was too scared but I did it the second time.
I learned that the Milky Way was bigger than the Sun.
Then we went back to class.

At Science Alive I learnt about Pluto. It is not a planet any longer. It formed into a block of ice. Pluto is cold. Some planets have lots of moons. Pluto was named after the Roman God of the Underworld. Pluto was discovered in 1930.

On Wednesday Skye and I went to Science Alive with Room 15 and when I was there I went in the big dome. When I hopped out of the dome I went into Galleries 1, 2 and 3. There were spiders but they were not real. They're in glass and there was a screen and a light bulb and you put it under the light bulb. Whatever you do it comes on the screen.
I learnt how to make a galaxy and how to make planets out of dough.

How to make a solar system.

Step 1.

* get some black paper.

Step 2.

* put glue on the black paper.

Step 3.

* get some chalk

Step 4.

* get a cheese grater

Step 5.

* cheese grate the chalk onto the glue so it sticks to the paper

Step 6.

* put a star for where the Sun is!

Yesterday I played with the stringless harp. You could change the sound.

I learnt that blue stars are hotter than red stars.

On Tuesday room 18 went to Science Alive. I went on the huge slide and the slide turned out fine because the man let me put my hands on his hands,so I just went down. When I went down my tummy felt weird because it was deep and long.

I learned that the Moon is made out of rocks.

I went to Science Alive yesterday and it was fun. I went on the gyrascope, and it was awesome because I got really dizzy.

I liked playing the stringless harp. It is fun when I do the real harp sound and I like the bird sound when it chirps like a bird. I also like the sound of gun cannons.
In the dome we saw the stars they all have Maori names and there are legends and myths about them.

On Tuesday I went to Sience Alive. First we went into the special classroom. We learnt how to make our own galaxy. All you need is some chalk and a little piece of black paper and a grater and some glue. All you need now is to make it:
* You put swirls of glue on the paper
* You grate some chalk on the glue
* Now leave the glue to dry.
I like making galaxies.
I learned that the Milky Way is bigger than the Sun. We are in the Milky Way and it is HUGE!

On Tuesday I went to Science Alive. When we got there I was so excited. When I saw the enormous slide I was so scared but I tried it out. The scary bit was when I had to reach out on the hand prints.

I learnt that the sun spins around earth slowly.

As the sun spins around earth it gets lighter and lighter then darker and darker.

Going to Science Alive was awesome fun. I liked the dome because you look up at the
Milky Way. I enjoyed making our own Milky Way. We put glue on black paper
then spread chalk on it.
I learned that it takes the Earth one day to spin around and one month for the Moon to spin around Earth and one year for the Earth to spin around the Sun.

If you go to Science Alive you can find this Humungous slide that goes Absolutely straight down. When you go on it, it is so freaky, but really fun. People go on it and say,"I don't want to go on this anymore." But there is a person of course that willl look after you. Also you need a blanket and you have to put your hands up on the glass. The person will help you with that too.
I learned about space and I learned that the Earth takes a whole year to get around the Sun. That is Amazing. I hope you go to Science Alive. Bye!

On Tuesday we went to Science Alive and I went to floor 2 and 3 but I liked floors 1 and 2 because
on floor 1 it had a seat and a rope and you had to try to pull on it then try to go to the top of the rope . Then on floor 2 there is a thing that you hold on to and you stand on a black circle and spin around.
I learned that stars can be different colours.

I loved the big slide at Science Alive and the 'no string' harp.

The big slide was straight down. The harp had no stings, it made piano sounds and violins. The sound was made by little black holes.

I learnt that the Japanese people call Matariki Subaru.

At Science Alive I put my hand into the nail picture. It hurts a little bit but if you tilt it back it doesn't. You put your hand in a glass thing with nails and you tilt it forward and you end up with a nail hand print!
When I went into the dome I learnt that you could see the planets Venus,Mars and Saturn with the naked eye.

I was about to go on the big slide but when I got to the top I was scared so I went down the stairs and I went into the Earthquake House instead.
You can see Saturn and Jupiter in our sky at night. Venus is the brightest planet that we can see. Matariki is a group of stars which has a blue cloud over the top.

The milky way is bigger then the Earth and the Sun. The Earth and the Sun are like little specs when you look at the Milky Way.

On Tuesday we went to Science Alive. I learnt that it takes one year for the Earth to orbit the Sun.

I also learnt how to make a Galaxy. You need:

Black paper

chalk

sieve

glue

You put a design with glue on the paper. Then you get the chalk and sieve and rub the chalk onto

the glue. Them you shake the chalk into a rubbish bin and you have your own Galaxy.

There was one thing I really liked about Science Alive it was the HUGE slide it was really steep. On my first go I almost didn't do it but everyone who was up theire were cheering me on and I did it and I did it seven times!

I learnt that picking stuff up in space is way harder then I thought it was! The dome was cool because the man had a projector and it had stars that reflected all over the dome!!!

When I went to Science Alive I went on the Earthquake shaker and then I looked at a spinning disc. The disc kept on moving and then I looked at somebody and their face was orange! It was strange. It might have been because the black and white circles moved!?

On Tuesday our class went to Science Alive. I learnt that it's really weird that when you're in space it's really hard to pick stuff up but it was easy for me to pick up stuff with the robot-hand.
The best bit about it was probably the air maze with the ball. The ball moved around the maze because there was air in the bottom and when you open the little doors up. Whoever gets the ball gets to choose which hole to put it in. There are two holes at the start and whichever you choose it goes down.

In the Earthquake House there was a large, a medium and a slow one. People kept on falling off it cos it was going so fast. Inside the Earthquake House there was tools and one of the tools that you could lift up you could only lift up a little bit. It was really fun!

Gyroscope!

The Gyroscope went around and around and upside down. You had to sit in it and your shoes got strapped round in case you fall off.
The Earthquake House went across and across and Sam and Patrick fell down. They kept pushing stop and go.

Vertical Slide!

On my first go on the vertical slide I was really scared but on my sixth or seventh go it was really fun! A vertical slide goes straight down. It has a wee bump at the end which you can go up if you go fast enough.
There was an earthquake house that you could put the quake on medium or large. Under them there was a big red button that you could push to stop if the earthquake was getting too fast and you wanted to get off.

Polo the Dragon

Once upon a time there was a friendly dragon called Polo.

Polo travelled all around the ginormous world. One day he came across a magic house. He knew it was magical because there was a note on the doorstep which said, ‘THIS HOUSE MAY BE ON THE MOVE! I GO TO ALL LOCATIONS IN THE WORLD!’ It had no address and was in the middle of nowhere.

Polo decided to go inside… It was all dark and there was no one inside. He realised he had been mistaken because he could smell someone hiding. Polo couldn’t move a muscle – he was so scared. He shivered so hard that one of his scales fell off!!!

The mysterious person asked “Are you okay?”

Polo said, “I just want some new friends.”

“You can be my friend if you want,” exclaimed the person.

“OKAY!” said Polo and with that the house disappeared and reappeared in Switzerland!

On Thursday the 22nd of October the middle team held a great production called "THE SPARKLE TAKER!"
It was really fun and exiting! It also took us quite a long time to learn our script.
The middle team are also having a DVD made and we can't WAIT to see it.

p-for our mini lesson we made all the cokes make it see the sugar and it was in the pot diet coke had a bit of sugar zero coke had some sugar and coke had a lot of sugar

m- it took more time than we expected but it didn't go past our time limit and the diet coke did not stick to the pan and the other cokes did and it was quite hard to get the sugar off and the diet coke sugar was not coked enough

They then had to plan a lesson to teach the class based on the theme of "Heroes". The Swimming Sports

I woke up feeling happy. I remembered today was the swimming sports. I like freestyle backstroke and breathstroke. It was on Tuesday. I went in the swimming sports because I like swimming. I like all of the events. It was at the school pool. It was cold. I was excited at the start. It was fun. My favourite event was breathstroke. It was like swimming lessons. I like it because it was good to get a go at it. I was proud at the end because it was fun. The pool was cold but I got warmed up. I think I did a great job in the swimming sports. At the end I wanted to do it again because it was so fun. It was hard to come first, second or third, but I came fifth and was still glad of myself. My mum was proud too. We were all proud and Sarah hugged me. But the backstroke was hard and I still had a go at it and I came last in every one, but I was still proud. My mum cheered for me.

Gerald's Point Of View

It was evening I arrived at the Jungle Dance. I walked on stage. All the animals snarled at me and said "clumsy Gerald you can't dance". HA HA my head SPUN like a spinning top I FROZE like I got locked in a freezer. The other animals started doing the limbo and I just crept away home. But then I found a little clearing I looked up to the sky then a little cricket popped his head out of the grass and asked " why so sad?, Why aren't you at the jungle dance?"
"Little Cricket, the other animals say I can't dance, and that is true."
"All you need is a different tune."
So the cricket started chirping and Gerald suddenly felt that he was dancing.
"I am dancing," he cried. All the animals heard him so they ran to see. So all the animals shouted "Show us how you dance like that, please Gerald Show us how!" When Gerald finished dancing he looked up to the moon. "We can all dance. We just need to find a tune that we will can boogie to."

INDIVIDUAL TRIATHLON

On the 18 of February the Individual Triathlon took place at Fendalton School and I was in it. It was swimming first. I walked to the pool nervously. When I was getting up I heard people chatting. Now it was time for the race. On your marks, get set, honk! Splash! When everyone in the race splashed into the pool I took it nice and easy. When I finished my first lap, I went a bit faster. Then I finished, I ran out of the pool area and then I went to my bike. When I got my shoes on and my helmet, I got my bike and raced to the tape and got onto my bike and peddled. Then I saw two people behind me so I went faster and then I saw that I was all ready on the field so I followed the yellow cones. I went past the finish line and I nearly went into the swap over place, so I turned but there was no yellow cones so I waited till anyone came past, but then the people behind me over took me so I got onto my bike and peddled. Then I over took then, then they over took me then I had to get off my bike or I would be disqualified, so I got off my bike and I naerly hit the pole. I was panting then I ran with my bike then it was a smooth foot path. Then I was on fire. Just then I over took them again, then I was on the field and I was trying to get faster. Finally I got off my bike and up to the running stage. Then I was panting hard but I kept on going. Soon I was at the native area, I went a bit faster because it was cool, then it was hot again. Then I saw people behind me so I sprinted then I was out of the gate. Then they both over took me then I was on the field. I sprinted. I got my place - 8th. I was glad I did it.

I woke up thinking it was another boring day of school. But it wasn't it was the individual triathlon at Fendalton School. When I got to school I got my number, it was 0-3. Then I parked my bike and put my towel on the ground beside my bike and then I got changed.When I got out of the changing rooms I went back to my bike.I was in the first line and going to the pool for the swim, we were first.We got ready.TAKE YOUR MARKS GO!I dived in and started swimming.I was coming about 5th towards the finish.I got to the end and climbed out of the pool and raced to my bike and put my helmet and my running shoes on and wheeled my bike out of the transition area and jumped on my bike.I quickly changed to gear 6.I raced down the road and into the staff car park gate and around the field and down the alley way to Waiwetu Street and turned left down to the park.I sped around the park and out onto Jeffreys Road and then turned left onto Clyde Road.I almost had to stop because another group was coming out of where I started the bike but I didn't have to stop.All I had to do was bike around the field and I had finished the bike.I quickly wheeled my bike to the stand, dropped my helmet on the ground and quickly sprinted away to do the run.I was puffed.I jogged in front of room 15 and16, around the edge of the senior playground, up the hill past room 20 and around the tennis court.I had really bad stitch by now but I kept going.I ran out onto the footpath and ran down it.I had almost finished.I went around the field and I was coming up to the finish but someone just passed me when I crossed the finish.I came 5th but I was still proud of myself.

George's Individual Triathlon

I woke up and remembered about the triathlon. I was very happy. 18 February. I was very nervous
and exhausted. We all got to feel the pool. It was boiling , it was about 29 degrees, but it was cold when you hopped out. One thing when Mr Norton said he put all the the speedy boy's in 01 to 011. I was 05. He put us there because we were good. Mostly everyone was good at run, bike and swimming. All the rest was good. Even if you come last it doesn't matter.

I woke up feeling very nervous. I remembered today was the swimming sports. First the girls went, then the boys went. It was my turn and they called my age group. I went to the start. I was off. I was coming first place by miles. I felt great, I then saw a kid behind me so I sped up. Then I finished. I got out of the pool and got an orange paddle and that meant I went into a swimming final. But I just remembered that I was in the championship race and my friend told me that I had my championship race. So I was racing my friend, Sam. He won the cup. I came fourth place. I. did not get in the top three. Then I went home with my friend Liam and then I went with my mum back to my home. When I got home I was exhausted.

I am so excited, tonight is the jungle dance "where every animal turns up to skip and prance".
That evening when I got there the music was so cool that I could not help dancing. Right now the baboons are doing the Scottish reel, no it's actually finished. I wonder who's turn it is now? It's my turn, oh my gosh, that was soooo.....NO!!!!!!!!!!! GERALD'S JUST TURNED UP. BUT, the music went down, "POO TO YOU GERALD"I roared, the other animals shouted, roared and giggled.
You should have seen his face. It had turned bright red.
The silly thing just stumbled off home.
The other animals had just started doing the limbo, but, I didn`t join in. I started feeling sorry for Gerald, so I went home too. I Wonder what he will do next year, mayby just mayby he will be really good.

In the morning it was another day of school. I felt great beacause it was the Individual Triathlon. I was pretty nervous. I was competing in the hard biking, fun running and the awesome swimming. I got 19th place out of about 50 people and my time was 13 minutes. The pool was freezing and I did two whole lengths. After that I hopped on my bike and rode down the road. That was pretty exciting. I got off my bike, there was someone there to help me and I sprinted to the finish line. I got a tag that said 13 on it and I jogged back to class.

I was so excited I was chatting so much when I got to the maize maze. Hi do you want hear about the maize trip?

On Wednesday 25th of February we had so much fun because we went to the exciting maize maze. It was in Halswell. Everyone got to play on all of the activities, and then we got called down to the teacher and she said we can start. The maize is like big long long green shaped weeds. We got lost because there were so many paths to take. My group was taking off without our parent, so I stayed with the parent. The teacher said time to go and play on the activities. The thing I likes was getting lost and playing on the activities.

I woke up and remembered it was the Individual Triathlon. I went to school and got ready. We had

age groups and I was in the second group. I dived into the pool and I swam to the other side of the pool. I got out of the pool and ran to my cool bike. I put my awesome helmet on. I sped through the course then I got off my bike and zoomed through the running track.

When I past the finish line I felt proud of myself.

This year on the 18Th of February we had the triathlon. That's when you swim, bike and run. This year I really really wanted to win. I felt scared at the start. I was standing by my bike, then Mr Norton called for the 4's, so I lined up. I felt a shiver down my spin. When I was in line there were two people from my turn. The beeper went and the first people dived into the pool. Then the next people. Then it was my turn. I dived into the pool. The cool water covered my body so I swam the two lengths then I jumped out of the pool and run to my bike. I wheeled it down to the grass and biked out of the school and onto Clyde Road, and around to the park, then onto the field again. I biked around it and down to the bike stands. Then I gave my bike to somebody and ran by the village, then made my way out to Clyde Road and back to school and around the field and onto the cricket pitch. I finished. I think I did really well because my time 11 minutes and 44 seconds.

Henry F. Individual Triathalon

On Wednesday I woke up feeling fast and ready to run the triathlon at school. I got 6th in my race and 5th out of every body. My time was 12.12. Doing laps of the pool was really cold and really hard. The biking was pretty easy, but hard at the same time. It's really hard with lots of water in my togs. When I finished I had a really bad stitch in my leg, and my mum gave me a chocolate santa. It was really good, my Friend George was close to me when I finished. I bet him by 2 seconds. It was a fun day!!!

On Tuesday the terrific Fendalton school swimming sports were on. I competed in freestyle lengths and breathstroke lengths. I waited and waited for my swim, the pool was cold. My first swim was next. I jumped in the pool, it was a close race. I came fifth I had to wait about an hour until my breathstroke. I came fifth again I was so proud of..... myself and that was the first time I did it.

I woke up feeling happy that today was the swimming sports. It's at Fendalton School. My best freind Sophie is in it.. She has done a freestyle length, then she did backstroke length and then she got out and sat in her line. It was the boys turn. Sarah and I left. Sarah played a game while I went inside and read a book. Sophie was getting changed and she came back to the class. Sophie, Miriam and I played a game. It was running races. Soon I am going to give the swimming sports a go.

On Wednesday 18th of February I was in the Individual Triathlon for Fendalton School. We had to wait for ages so we played tag. When it finally started we got lined up for the swim. Honk! The race was on. I dove into the water. It was warm for the first length, but then it was freezing. I was first to my bike. I didin`t even dry my feet when I put my shoes on. I ran my bike to the road and jumped on. I passed Jay. I was first on the bike. Nathan passed me on the run. When I was at the finish Jay passed me, but I still came first in my age group. I felt like I was going to vomit but I still had a good day

The Exciting Swimming Sports

On the 17th of February it was the Fendalton school swimming sports. All day I was looking forward to this. It felt so weird. I felt so nervous. I got dressed feeling very weird indeed. When we sat down in our groups I sat beside Keegan and Nick. When it was my turn I tried to get at the end of the heat. My turn came I got ready to dive then I dived in. The pool was so freezing so I got to the end of the pool as fast as I could, urgent to get out of the freezing cold water. I realized that I had won my heat!! So I sat waiting for the final. Then the time came I got up ready to go then I dived in in. When I got to the end of the freezing cold pool I thought that I came third or fourth, so I went to sit down. Then it was backstroke. I was filled with hope. When I jumped in, the water felt freezing against my skin so, as soon as the race started, I went flat out and as soon as I got to the end of the pool, I realized I came last. I felt so disappointed. I did not want to do breathstroke because I was far too cold. I got dressed Nick and Keegan came in. I chatted for a while then I watched the relay with the teachers swimming. When I got home I told Mum all about it.

On Tuesday there was the Fendalton School swimming sports and it was held at the Fendalton School pool. The first event was the Girls 6-7 year old freestyle. After the 6-7 year old girls had done that it was the 7-8 Girls and then 9-10. Then it was the 7-8 girls championship freestyle.
That was my first event of the day. I was feeling nervous. I put my goggles on then Mr Procter said "On your marks" then banged the banger together and I dived in and started swimming.
But then I realised that my goggles had come off but I still swam the rest of the way and I ended up getting 3rd place. So I got out of the water and I got a stick from Mrs Greg and went and told Mr Sibson what my name was and my house colour then I gave my stick back to Mrs Greg. Next I went back to get my towel and get warm. After a wile it was the 7–8 year old girls championship backstroke. I was not that nervous. Then I got in the water all ready to start then I heard the banger bang. I pushed off the wall and started swimming my fastest backstroke. (It felt like I was zooming through the water).When I saw the flags at the other end I did a few more strokes and reached out for the wall. When I had touched the wall I turned around and got my stick then I realised I had got 1st equal with Stella. So I went to Mr Sibson. Then when I got back to get my towel and put it around me to keep warm. Then I went for the breastroke. Before I knew it it was my turn. I heard the banger, bang and I dived in and started doing breathstroke, and I could see the end of the pool. I touched the end of the pool and I realised that I had got second. I got my stick and went to see Mr Sibson, then I got ready for the house relay. It was an eight person relay. Bayely and I were in the Green team. I was the second to last to swim in the team. When the sixth person touched the wall I dived in and started swimming. When I got to the other end I reached out for the wall and touched the wall so the last swimmer could start to swim. In the end the Green team won. The Red team came second and the Blue team came third. After the relay I went down to the other end of the pool for the presentations. When Mr Norton called my name out I went up to the podium and stood on the first place spot. I got my cup and that was the end of the exciting and fun day. After I had got my cup, I went to get my towel and jersey. After that I went home with mum and had afternoon tea and got ready for gym.

I woke up feeling happy and just then I remembered it was the triathlon. But I was not doing the it, I was watching Ben. It began with the swim at the Fendalton school pool. I did not watch Ben swim because I was videoing Ben run and bike. When I saw Ben sped off on his bike, the video player battery was not charged. I just sat beside the classroom. I kept on videoing other people and I knew that ben finished because he came and told me, and that is the end of the individual triathlon...
